The brain by Shankar Vedantam hidden Part 1

This book is subtitled: How Minds elected president, control market, wages war to save our lives and our subconscious.

Sorry 's subtitle of the book is far from the description of the actual content of more along the lines of "Why would a journalist thinks psychology supports the Democratic Party."

The fact that we subconsciously (or unconsciously) the heads that affect our behavior in ways that often do not realize or do not see anything new. Freud wrote about themspecifically in modern times. Artists and marketers have long been able to push our buttons inside without an understanding of how we are.

The first sections to help tell some interesting stories that make the case the author is that we are influenced much more by our subconscious that we wish to believe. Nothing really new.

Then he moved in some evidence that preschool children in North America affected unconsciously against blacks and whites is, despite the best efforts of parents and teachersthe distortion removed. And the author is the case that their thoughts are hidden, in spite of what adults tell them to pick up in their communities that whites are the majority.

This raises a lot of questions. It is true of black children who grow up in neighborhoods where blacks are nearly all are true black?

And what of Cross-Cultural Studies? The author is from India, as he knows it better than he admits, is far more diversity and cultural, racial, ethnic, religious and caste ? and the corresponding bias ? that the United States.

And then he moved very dangerous ground ? say that the science proves that the political conservatism is positively correlated with unconscious racial bias. And he goes into depth on this topic to the presidential race of 2008 together.

He tried to be careful, but he does not consider all factors. May have their unconscious prejudices?

For example, he argues that whitemale union members supported Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984 due to the innate racism. Finally, it was against their economic interests.

Therefore, he assumes that the rhetoric of class struggle of the Democratic Party right. He does not believe that the Americans prefer ? for rational reasons ? free enterprise to socialism.

While spending many pages on white racism against Barack Obama, it just takes a long number, reject the thesis that blacksshowed racial discrimination in 2008, more than white people by an overwhelming majority for Obama, while whites split their votes between Obama and McCain. If millions of whites was not ready ? despite what the author says, is their unconscious racism manifesto ? to vote for Obama, he would lose. The truth is that it considers the problems and some have decided Obama was the better candidate, not because or despite it's black, but because of his stand.
