Apple needs to redefine itself, but that shouldn't take long

Image
We know that Apple can be OCD-ish about dictionaries at times, but is any brave Cupertino intern ready to step up and run the gauntlet? Apple's definition of itself in its own Dictionary application is looking dusty, while all it really needs is a quick mention of the company's latest gifts to the world -- and we don't just mean the Patent Wars.

[Thanks, Ishmaeel]

Church: We support long term same-sex relationships ? but not marriage (yet)

The Anglican Church?s bench of Bishops -?the whole body of English prelates assembled in council ? have stated their current stance on same-sex unions.?It said it: ?Abides by the Christian doctrine of marriage as the union of one man with one woman freely entered into for life. Acknowledges that whilst issues of human sexuality are not resolved, there are couples living in other life-long committed relationships who deserve the welcome, pastoral care and support of the Church.

It is also: ?Committed to further listening, prayerful reflection and discernment regarding same-sex relationships.?

The stance was reiterated in the light of the resignation of Monmouth priest Andrew Morton?s public resignation over the church?s stance on same sex marriage.

In an interview with the BBC, the?Reverend?Morton said: ?First of all I felt that the church?s position on same-sex relationships, never mind same-sex marriages, was increasingly judgemental and not really inclusive.

?I feel a greater degree of homophobia in the church than I?ve felt for a long time.

?I felt in order to offer an authentic critique of the church as an institution, the most honourable thing was to do it from the outside rather than from the inside.?

The Church in Wales is understood still to be?debating?the issue.

Museum plays April Fools' joke on prolific forger

Landis, of Laurel, Miss. for a show called "Faux Real" in Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday, March 27, 2012. (AP) ? Fool me once, the saying goes. But 50 times? That's what a convincing art forger did for nearly three decades when he donated his copies of Picassos and other works of art to unsuspecting museums in 20 states.

Mark A. Landis, who has dressed as a Jesuit priest or posed as a wealthy donor driving up in a red Cadillac, apparently never took money for his forgeries and has never been arrested.

Now his "works" have been collected into their own tongue-in-cheek exhibit, called Faux Real and opening on April Fools' Day at the University of Cincinnati.

Educating people about forgery and letting people know about Landis "is the only way to stop him," said Mark Tullos, director of the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum in Lafayette, La., which was duped in 2010 with a donation of a painting supposedly by American Charles Courtney Curran.

Landis creates works in oil, watercolor, pastels, chalk, ink and pencil, making most of his copies from museum or auction catalogs that provide dimensions and information on the originals.

He sometimes bestows gifts under different names, such as the Father Arthur Scott alias used at Hilliard. In that case, he told officials that his dead mother had left works including Curran's oil-on-wood painting "Three Women" and that he was donating it in her memory.

Tullos said museum employees became suspicious when Landis kept changing the subject under questioning. After he drove off, the museum quickly concluded it was a forgery.

To convince museums he is a philanthropist, he also concocts elaborate stories about health concerns, said Cincinnati exhibit co-curator Matthew Leininger.

"He has been having heart surgery for almost 30 years," Leininger said with a frustrated laugh. "This is the strangest case the museum realm has known in years."

Landis, 57, acknowledges what he's up to. He told The Associated Press in a phone interview from his home in Laurel, Miss., that he made his first forgery donation to a California museum in 1985.

"They were so nice. I just got used to that, and one thing led to another," he said. "It never occurred to me that anyone would think it was wrong."

The Cincinnati exhibit of about 40 works given to 15 museums grew to around 100 when Landis donated 60 pieces he possesses, along with his priest's outfit.

The Faux Real show will run through May 20 at the Dorothy W. and C. Lawson Reed Jr. Gallery. It depicts famous art forgers, details of how Landis made some donations and ways of detecting fakes. Visitors can view some works under ultraviolet light that causes sections to glow if they contain contemporary ingredients.

Art experts say not accepting payment for his forgeries has helped keep Landis from being charged with a crime. Museum officials say forgeries can hurt their reputation and cost time and money researching suspected fraud.

Landis typically targets smaller museums without resources to thoroughly check donations. While museums don't pay Landis, some treat him to meals, receptions and gifts like catalogs and souvenirs before realizing they were duped, Leininger said.

The exhibit doesn't judge Landis but is using his story to show how forgeries occur and demonstrate that institutions and the public "shouldn't take things at face value," exhibit co-curator Aaron Cowan.

The exhibit won't increase the value of Landis' works ? considered worthless except as educational tools on forgery ? and the curators have heard no objections to spotlighting his works.

Landis won't profit from the show but says it is "nice of them to do this." And though Leininger says he doesn't think Landis can stop, the forger acknowledges that it's harder to fool people now "than the '80s and '90s, when you could just walk in and donate."

"Now they want all types of documentation."

Former Sinatra home back on market

Zillow

Alicia Keys' Manhattan penthouse is all style and glass.

By Staff, Zillow

Alicia Keys is moving on from her gorgeous Manhattan apartment, Frank Sinatra's former home is for sale, and the former rental home of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes as well as Russell Crowe is available for lease.

Alicia Keys lists 'Empire-State-of-Mind' penthouse

Forget about moving on up. Singer and New York native Alicia Keys did that a long time ago, trading her childhood residence at the artist-friendly Manhattan Plaza apartment complex in Hell's Kitchen for a slick SoHo real estate market triplex.

Now Keys and her producer husband Swizz Beatz have listed their Crosby Street penthouse for $17.95 million only two years after the couple bought the place from funk/soul/rocker Lenny Kravitz for $12.5 million.

Zillow

The dining room features immense skylights and chandeliers.

According to Sotheby's International, which holds the listing, the apartment boasts five bedrooms, four bathrooms, four powder rooms and an enormous state-of-the-art, windowed, gourmet eat-in kitchen with walk-in butler's pantry. And separate formal dining room that faces east encased in a glass solarium.

That's only the start of the grand tour of a pad once rented by Nicole Kidman and Denzel Washington. The place also has an expansive living room with fireplace and library/media room that are all surrounded by undoubtedly one of the most beautiful private terraces in all of SoHo. Upstairs, there's a separate private master suite complete with spa, pass-through dressing area and private terrace.

Read more about Alicia Keys' penthouse.

Owner of former Sinatra home didn't stay long

Zillow

Frank Sinatra owned this home during a low point during his career.

When Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey bought Frank Sinatra's former Los Angeles home in November 2010 for $18.5 million, the famous Hollywood producer had big plans to restore and renovate the brick ranch that sits on a parklike 2.3 acres.

Turns out that, in the end, the Sinatra house that inspired Grey's dreams was merely a nice set for Grey's wedding in April 2011 to his new wife, Cassandra. The wedding was called lavish, and attended by the likes of Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Lopez. The couple has since moved to Bel Air, making Grey's ownership stint a lot like Sinatra's.

"My client still owns (the Sinatra house) but I sold him another property. He didn't want to go through the process of renovating the house,'' said Stephen Shapiro, who holds the listing at Westside Estate Agency.

The property has been back on the market since September, when Grey listed the Holmby Hills residence for $23.5 million. After a price drop on March 15, the former Sinatra home at 320 N. Carolwood Drive was re-listed for its current list price of $19,995,000.

According to the Sinatra biography "The Voice,'' by James Kaplan, Sinatra bought the house in 1948 for $250,000 at a time when his career was at a low ebb. Sinatra had built a dream home in Palm Springs, and was strapped for cash and on the verge of divorce.

Zillow

Sinatra's former home spans 8,600 square feet.

Rent like Tom Cruise or Russell Crowe for $100K a month

Zillow

The rental has nearly three acres of manicured grounds.

What do Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Russell Crowe have in common?

Besides star status and high-paying movie roles, all three have at some point, for at least a little while, called 918 N. Alpine Drive home in Los Angeles.

The Tudor-style home was rented by Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise for $55,000 a month and then leased by Russell Crowe while he filmed "State of Play."

In 2001, the nearly three-acre estate was also the filming location for several scenes in the movie "Blow" starring Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz.

And for someone with a celebrity-sized housing budget, the home is available again ? this time for a whopping monthly rental price of $100,000.

Available as a short or long-term lease, the Beverly Hills rental is set back from the street ? perfect for privacy-seeking celebrity tenants. With almost three acres of landscaped property, 6,685 square feet of living space and three separate guest apartments, the estate also has enough room for the star with the biggest entourage of stylists, security personnel and various and sundry assistants.

Zillow

The backyard features private gardens surrounded by high hedges and greenery.

Hair Transplant: The Safest Way To Regrow Your Hair

Blame the change in lifestyle or inherited considerations but baldness has appeared as a serious issue in the past few years. Fortunately though, biological sciences have also advanced at an analogous pace and therefore , there are a few hair regrowth treatment plans available. Laser hair transplant, generally called simply hair transplant is a medical technique which has shown impressive results

Depending on the force of alopecia, the course of treatment is decided by a surgeon. If there?s harsh hair fall from a specific area on the head, a surgeon might advocate multiple sessions whereas one medical technique is adequate for somebody with mild alopecia. Under the process, a strip of hair is surgically removed from the rear part of the head which routinely has healthy hair growth. This strip is then surgically treated before the hair follicles can be extracted. Once this step has been finished, the hair follicles are grafted onto the bald patch very rigorously.

As is clear, the whole process involves strategic planning and precision. The strength of the treatment has to be regulated according to the requirements of every patient. While it may appear boring and risky, it is definitely worth the effort. It has got many advantages which makes it one of the most trustworthy options available for hair regrowth.

The follicles which are transplanted are immune to genetic balding, this guarantees that the treatment is permanent. Additionally, it has minimum side-effects provided you follow some simple post-operative cares. The doctor will usually prescribe a few antibiotics which must be taken as per his/her suggestions. As a precautionary word, remember that shock alopecia directly after the surgery is sort of ordinary.

However , the most crucial virtue of this hair regrowth routine is that the hair growth looks incredibly natural. There are no apparent scars and the hair regrowth pattern is anything apart from synthesised. Every bit effective for both women and men, hair transplant can turn out to be a godsend for anyone experiencing issues related to hair loss.

If you?ve tried everything and are ready to explore more effective techniques of regrowing your hair complete our free online hair consoltation form. If your just looking for full information visit Virginia Surgical Center?s online blog.

Quevilly stuns Marseille in French Cup quarters

By JEROME PUGMIRE

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 8:42 p.m. ET March 20, 2012

PARIS (AP) -Marseille's abysmal run of bad form continued as it lost for an eighth consecutive game on Tuesday, crashing out of the French Cup after a 3-2 quarterfinal defeat in extra time to non-league Quevilly.

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps did not spare his players' feelings, saying they badly let down the fans who traveled to the other side of France up to Normandy to watch the game.

"I'm left with a feeling of shame," Deschamps said. "I'm thinking about all those poor people who came to watch us today and who support us. Our pride has taken a blow. It's hard to accept."

Striker Johan Ayina scored with one minute remaining in extra time for Quevilly, his second goal of a pulsating match in which Marseille twice came from behind.

Marseille has little time to regroup as it faces a tough away trip on Saturday to southern rival Nice, which is fighting to avoid relegation, and then takes on Bayern Munich four days later at Stade Velodrome in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal.

"Now we have to go to Nice and it won't be easy at all," Deschamps said. "The atmosphere will be absolutely intense, obviously. Having played an extra 30 minutes is not ideal, either. We have to recover and get our fresh legs back in time for Saturday."

Marseille had forced extra time through Loic Remy's goal five minutes from the end of normal time, but Ayina powered the ball into the net after Marseille goalkeeper Gennaro Bracigliano spilled a cross for the winning goal.

"We've just knocked out Marseille, and everything that represents. They're quarterfinalists in the Champions League," Quevilly coach Regis Brouard said. "It was a magnificent match, and we took risks in extra time by playing two strikers. I felt that there was a chance for us, that we could take them on the break, and we were rewarded for our audacity."

Quevilly, which plays two divisions beneath Marseille in the semi-professional National league, scored after six minutes when forward Julien Valero swept in from close range after Joris Colinet flicked on a free kick.

Colinet almost doubled the lead soon after but just failed to get on the end of Valero's cross.

Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac, making his first start since Oct. 25, twice went close midway through the first half and then forced goalkeeper Issa Coulibaly into a smart save early in the second half.

"The first half was hard to stomach," Deschamps said. "We tried to come back into the game but a lot of the players are very tired."

As Marseille pushed for an equalizer, Quevilly almost won the game in normal time when Valero's strike hit Alou Diarra's leg and the ball rolled just past the post.

A minute after that lucky escape, Marseille equalized when winger Andre Ayew headed Rod Fanni's cross back across goal and Remy curled the ball in, despite Coulibaly getting a hand on the ball.

Aynia got his first goal of the game six minutes into the second period of extra time, making a great run to the near post and clipping the ball past Bracigliano.

But Marseille leveled straight away when Ayew again set up Remy, who finished from close range in the 112th.

With the match heading for a penalty shootout, Quevilly broke forward and won a freekick. Bracigliano came to claim what was a routine catch, but dropped the ball despite being under little pressure and it rolled invitingly for Aynia to thump home.

"It's huge to win, especially in the last minute like that," Brouard said. "We're one game away from Stade de France, we're just going to make the most of it now, we'll have plenty of time to prepare the next game."

Deschamps remonstrated with the fourth official after the goal, but Bracigliano was unimpeded as he went to claim the ball.

The 20-year-old Ayina's goals were his first since joining Quevilly from Paris Saint-Germain - Marseille's most bitter rival.

"It's exceptional, the first goals I've scored for the club and they're against Marseille," Ayina said. "I want to play against PSG now, it would be a pleasure."

In Wednesday's quarterfinals, PSG faces Lyon at home; non-league Gazelec Ajaccio faces Montpellier, and Valenciennes takes on Rennes.

China's monopoly on rare earths may soon be broken

It's a rare fight. The US, Europe and Japan have lodged a formal complaint with the World Trade Organization over China's export of rare earths ? or lack of it.

China produces 95 per cent of the global supply of the 17 metals, which are used in technologies from cellphones to wind turbines, but it has set up quotas restricting exports.

Despite their name, rare earths can be mined on most continents, although the cost of extraction has been too high to be economical. China's quotas may have helped push up demand ? and prices ? enough to make extraction cost-effective.

Several companies are now starting to extract rare earths outside China. In 2010, US company Molycorp reopened the Mountain Pass mine in California for the first time in eight years. Australia's Alkane Resources has a pilot plant in New South Wales, and hopes to start large-scale mining by the end of 2013.

Shifting mining outside of China could be a good thing, says David Manning of Newcastle University in the UK. Rare earths are often mixed up with radioactive uranium and thorium, which must be carefully disposed of, and toxic acids are used during processing. "It would be very good for mining to take place in countries where regulations are strict and can be enforced," he says.

China is now imposing stricter regulations. As of last year, only companies that comply are allowed to export rare earths. "They are heading in the right direction," says Paul Lusty of the British Geological Survey.

NH House to weigh gay marriage repeal vote

(AP Photo/Cheryl Senter, File)

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) ? New Hampshire lawmakers are considering whether to take the first step toward making their state legislature the first one to repeal a gay marriage law, even as the governor threatens a veto.

But regardless of the final outcome of the push to repeal the 2-year-old gay marriage law, both sides are pledging to continue fighting into the fall elections.

The bill, scheduled for a House vote on Wednesday, calls for repealing gay marriage in March 2013 and replacing it with a civil unions law that had been in place in 2008 and 2009. Gay marriages occurring before the repeal took effect would still be valid, but future gay unions would be civil unions. The bill also would allow voters could weigh in through a nonbinding November ballot question.

If the House passes the repeal measure, it would go to the Senate; both houses are controlled by Republicans. Democratic Gov. John Lynch has promised to veto the bill if it reaches his desk.

A two-thirds vote of the Legislature is required to override a veto. Opponents of a repeal have lobbied hard in the House in the hopes of achieving a narrower margin if the bill passes on Wednesday. The House would be the first chamber to take up an override vote if Lynch vetoes the bill, and if it failed to muster two-thirds, the measure would die.

Repeal opponents hope to solidify what they argue is public support for gay marriage, while supporters hope to reverse the law in a region of the country that gay rights groups have strength.

The National Organization for Marriage has pledged to spend $250,000 to help lawmakers running for re-election who support repealing the law. On the other side, the New Hampshire Republicans of Freedom and Equality PAC is raising money to back Republicans who vote to retain it.

If the law is repealed, a lawsuit is expected to be filed arguing New Hampshire's law discriminates against gays who no longer can get married.

Democrats enacted both the civil unions and gay marriage laws when they controlled the Legislature, and Lynch signed both. After Republicans took control of the House and Senate in 2010, repeal legislative was introduced, but held over until this year.

The repeal legislation, sponsored by state Rep. David Bates, would ensure the 1,906 existing same-sex marriages would remain valid if the gay marriage law is repealed. Bates said it would replace the current "illegitimate definition" of marriage with one defining it as between one man and one woman.

Same-sex marriage is legal in New York, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maryland, Washington and the District of Columbia. New Jersey lawmakers recently passed a gay marriage bill, but the governor vetoed it. An override vote could come as late as January 2014.

Since 1998, 31 states have had ballot measures related to same-sex marriage, and opponents have prevailed in every state. Those states include Maine, where voters in 2009 rejected the state's gay-marriage law.

Last month, a federal appeals court declared California's same-sex marriage ban to be unconstitutional. The ruling could mean the bitterly contested, voter-approved law will be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.

HBT: Yu Darvish has an Achilles' heel

You Darvish had a pretty good outing yesterday. Four innings, four strikeouts. He walked four too, but he worked around them well enough. And he was throwing gas, hitting 96 on the gun.

And Brewers pitcher Randy Wolf noticed something in Darvish?s game that had a lot to do with the gun:

?The one thing I did notice,? Wolf said, smiling, ?is that he may have been the quickest radar-checker I have ever seen in my life. I thought a couple of times he was going to drop the ball [from the catcher] because he was looking back to see how hard he threw. ?

Hear that Anaheim? When Darvish comes to town, ratchet your gun readings down. It?ll frustrate him if he thinks he?s only throwing 91 or something, and take him off his game.

Porsche targets rich Nigerians' love for luxury

LAGOS (Reuters) - Nigeria's super rich are no strangers to conspicuous consumption, and there's no better way to flaunt your wealth than by buying a brand new European sports car.

German carmaker Porsche officially opened a new car dealership on Friday in the heart of Lagos' wealthiest district, Victoria Island, a place with one of the world's highest concentrations of millionaires.

There are already dealerships specialising in Aston Martin and Lamborghini, but Porsche hopes to capitalise on a promise of providing sturdier vehicles that can cope with Nigeria's rough roads. Its presence is being seen as a vote of confidence in the West African nation's fast-growing economy.

Porsche also plans to set up an operation in the capital Abuja, where roads are newly built - a better market for the 911 sports model - and where politicians are amongst the world's most highly paid.

"The African continent, and in particular Nigeria, is of growing importance to us at Porsche," the company's Middle East and Africa head George Wills said, unveiling the new 911 model.

High-end goods producers are increasingly targeting sub-Saharan Africa, as its economic growth starts to dwarf other continents and rich Western countries face a slowdown.

Nigeria, Africa's second biggest economy, grew 7.68 percent in the last quarter of 2011, one of the fastest in the world.

Two of Africa's top five richest men are Nigerian.

"We're quite confident the numbers will be strong," Wills told Reuters in front of the new 911 sports car, after a Porsche official revved its engine for flashing cameras.

"It's difficult to put a finite number on it, but certainly enough to give a return on this investment," he added.

Porsche Nigeria general manager Julian Hardy estimates 200 Nigerians own Porsches - the dealership had been running prior to the official launch since July and sold an undisclosed number, and rich Nigerians have been importing them for decades.

THE RICHER RICH

At a party to celebrate Porsche's launch, Nigerians in sharp suits and cocktail dresses drank martinis and danced around the 911 display model to live music.

"You can drive around Lagos ... then take your car to the race track and become a beast and go wild," said Emmanuel Ngala, an IT consultant who owns a Cayenne 4x4 and is buying a 911.

The firm's sales target for 2012 is 100 cars, and it hopes to hit a stable sales rate of around 300 a year, compared with 800 in South Africa. Average prices currently range between 21 million naira ($133,000) to 30 million naira ($190,000).

The oil wealth of Africa's biggest producer has made multi-millionaires of its elite in the past few decades, even while absolute poverty has increased to 60 percent of the population.

Lagos embraces some of Africa's most expensive real estate alongside some of its most crowded slums. On one street, a Hummer drives past a tramp sifting through a dustbin.

The car park at the Porsche show rooms has several models.

"It's a nice car," said employee Mohammed Ibrahim, as he hosed down a chrome coloured Cayenne and shined it to a sparkle with a cloth. On his 20,000 naira a month salary it would take him 125 years to afford one if he didn't buy anything else.

"God might give me a car like this one day. He can do that, if he wants to. He can do anything," he said, grinning.

BIG MEN AND MOTORS

Sandwiched between the lagoon that led Portuguese sailors to name this city 'Lagos' and the Atlantic, Victoria Island is a place of fund managers in fine woollen suits and oil oligarchs.

The faces of glamorous women smile from billboards advertising mobile phones. Luxury 4x4s are everywhere.

But it has scant electricity, most roads are sandy, potholed and patrolled by beggars in rags. Poor drainage means they flood - in the rainy season, fishermen sometimes traverse them by canoe, raising doubts about the practicality of sports cars like a 911.

Other luxury brands have however made it big in Nigeria. It is a significant African market for LVMH. Most bars can get you Moet & Chandon champagne or Hennessy brandy, which women sip next to their Louis Vuitton handbags.

The "Auto Lounge" in Victoria Island lets you enjoy an expensive drink overlooking a garage of Aston Martins.

Paris-based magazine Jeune Afrique last year placed Nigeria at the top of Africa's champagne consumers, guzzling 593,000 bottles in 2010, 50 percent more than richer rival South Africa.

($1 = 157.6000 naira)

Motorola launches Defy+ in the UAE

Motorola Defy+

Motorola has released the Defy+ for the UAE, bringing the tough-as-nails phone to market for those who need a tough-as-nails phone. With a water resistant and dust-proof casing, and a scratch resistant Gorilla Glass screen, Motorola promises the Defy+ will be "life proof". The Defy+ offers a much improved experience over the original, with a newer, better version of Motorola's Blur user interface, and has better internals. Shipping with a 1GHz processor, a 3.7-inch 800x480 display, a 1700mAh battery and Android 2.3 the Defy+ should be a hit for those who want a rugged phone that looks stylish and runs well. Manning, Harbaugh a bad fit?

HarbaughPeytonGetty Images

The Peyton chase stands at three teams. ?Assuming that the Broncos, Titans, and 49ers ?each have put equivalent offers on the table, the question becomes identifying the best overall fit for the future Hall of Famer.

If the primary factor is, as it should be, the path to the Super Bowl, the 49ers should be the first choice.

On closer inspection, however, the personalities and the fiercely competitive natures of Peyton Manning and coach Jim Harbaugh could be an impediment. ?Both men want to run the show. ?Both men are used to being the center of attention. ?Both men have a tendency to get a little upset when things don?t work out exactly the way they?re supposed to work out.

Consider their respective histories. ?Manning achieved his biggest success under Tony Dungy and Jim Caldwell, both of whom never get upset ? and both of whom were more than happy to let Peyton run the offense and stand in the spotlight. ?Harbaugh has excelled with low-profile quarterbacks who always defer to the head coach, like Alex Smith and Andrew Luck.

Then there?s the supporting cast. ?Over the years, Peyton has enjoyed a wide assortment of non-diva receivers who understand that the quarterback is in charge, and that they should say or do nothing to undermine that. ?From Marvin Harrison to Reggie Wayne to Marcus Pollard to Dallas Clark to Pierre Gar?on to a more recent revolving door of no-name pass-catchers, Peyton has never had to deal demanding, demonstrative skill-position players.

In San Francisco, he?d be throwing to the passionate and at times mercurial Vernon Davis. ?To Michael Crabtree, who never has done nearly enough to come close to justifying his opinion of himself. ?To Randy Moss, whose name requires no further elaboration.

None of this mean that Manning will say no to the Niners. ?In the end, he may decide to take a chance on co-existing with Harbaugh and Davis and Crabtree and Moss. ?The desire to win a Super Bowl can blur those otherwise bright warning signs, as we saw three years ago when obsessive-compulsive micromanager Brad Childress embraced close-your-eyes-and-wing-it quarterback Brett Favre.

Harbaugh is willing to do it, possibly because others within the organization are making the call, and possibly because Harbaugh once found a way to work with Mike Ditka. ?Besides, Harbaugh desperately wants to win, and he knows that Peyton Manning gives him a far better chance than Alex Smith. ?The bigger question is whether Manning thinks that going to the team with the most talent supersedes going to an organization with a much greater inclination to let him be the guy he was in Indianapolis.

(AP) ? A former Rutgers University student convicted Friday in the webcam spying episode that ended in his gay roommate's suicide could be headed off to prison in a case experts say stands as a tragic lesson for young people about casual cruelties and unintended consequences in the Internet age.

Dharun Ravi was found guilty of all 15 charges against him, including invasion of privacy and anti-gay intimidation. The jury decided that he not only spied on Tyler Clementi and another man as they were kissing but also singled out Clementi because he was gay.

Ravi, 20, could get up to 10 years in prison by some estimates and could be deported to his native India even though he has lived legally in the U.S. since he was a little boy.

The case stirred a national conversation about anti-gay bullying and teen suicide. It also illustrated the dangers of technology in the hands of people who have grown up with the likes of Twitter and Facebook.

"They don't feel like they're spying. It's just their own iPhone they're using, their own laptop," said Annemarie McAvoy, an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School in New York. "Hopefully, parents will use this as an example for their children."

On the Rutgers campus, student Melvin Ways said: "I think the lesson here is not everything is meant to be publicized to the entire world, especially private matters and things that are personal to people."

Prosecutors said Ravi set up his webcam in his dorm room and watched Clementi kissing another man on Sept. 19, 2010, then tweeted about it and excitedly tried to catch Clementi in the act again two days later. A half-dozen students were believed to have seen the live video of the kissing; no video was taken in the second instance.

On Sept. 22, Clementi threw himself off the George Washington Bridge after posting one last status update on Facebook: "Jumping off the gw bridge, sorry."

At a courthouse news conference after the verdict, Clementi's father, Joe, addressed himself to college students and other young people, saying: "You're going to meet a lot of people in your life. Some of these people you may not like. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you have to work against them."

Ravi shook his head faintly after hearing the verdict. He and his parents left the courthouse without comment, his father's arm around his shoulders.

His attorney Steven Altman issued a brief statement saying "everyone could rest assured that at the appropriate time an appeal will be filed."

Ravi's lawyers had argued at the trial that the college freshman was not motivated by any hostility toward gays and that his actions were just those of an immature "kid."

In letting the case go to trial, Ravi gambled and may have lost big. Months ago, he and his lawyers rejected a plea bargain that would have spared him from prison, and prosecutors would have even helped him avoid deportation.

The most serious charges ? two counts of bias intimidation based on sexual orientation ? carry up to 10 years in prison each. But legal experts said the most Ravi would probably get all together at sentencing May 21 would be 10 years. The judge could also give him no prison time at all.

Prosecutors said they would consult with Clementi's family and the other man in the video ? identified as only as M.B. ? before recommending a sentence.

Ravi was also convicted of seven counts of covering up his actions by instructing a friend what to tell investigators and deleting tweets and text messages.

He was not charged with causing Clementi's death. And while the jury was told Clementi had taken his life, prosecutors did not argue directly that the spying led to his suicide.

Clementi's death was one in a string of suicides by young gays around the country in September 2010. President Barack Obama commented on it, as did talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.

New Jersey lawmakers passed an anti-bullying law in the aftermath, and Rutgers changed its housing policies to allow people of the opposite sex to room together in an effort to make gay, bisexual and transgender students feel more comfortable.

"The verdict today demonstrates that the jurors understood that bias crimes do not require physical weapons like a knife in one's hand," said Hayley Gorenberg, deputy legal director of the gay rights organization Lambda Legal.

Some of the jurors said that Ravi's tweets, especially one that "dared" friends to watch the webcast that never happened, were key evidence in convicting him of anti-gay intimidation.

"That post, what it said, struck a chord in all of us," said Ed Dolan, a finance manager.

Another juror, Kashad Leverett, a security guard, said that Ravi's videotaped interrogation by police also helped convince jurors of his guilt. "He admitted to it, saying, 'I knew it would embarrass him,'" Leverett said.

Ravi and Clementi, both 18-year-old freshmen from comfortable New Jersey suburbs, had been randomly assigned to room together, and Clementi had arrived at college just a few days after coming out to his parents as gay.

A line of students testified they never heard Ravi say anything bad about gays in general or Clementi in particular. But students did say Ravi expressed some concern about sharing a room with a gay man.

On Sept. 19, according to testimony, Clementi asked Ravi to leave their room so that he could have a guest. Later, Ravi posted on Twitter: "Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly's room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay."

Ravi told police that he watched only seconds of the encounter. His friend Molly Wei testified that she and a few other students also watched the live stream of the men kissing. (Wei was initially charged in the case but cooperated with prosecutors and will be allowed to keep her record clean.)

Two nights later, Clementi asked for the room alone again. This time, Ravi tweeted: "I dare you to video chat me between the hours of 9:30 and 12. Yes, it's happening again." He also texted a friend about a planned "viewing party" and allegedly went to friends' rooms to show them how to access the feed.

However, there was no evidence the webcam was turned on that night. Ravi told police he had put his computer to sleep. Prosecutors argued Clementi himself unplugged the computer.
