Federer avoids upset, Djokovic, Sharapova march on

Roger Federer kept his dreams of equalling Pete Sampras's record of seven Wimbledon titles narrowly alive on Friday as top seeds Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova also reached the last 16.

Six-time champion Federer survived a huge scare, coming within just two points of crashing to his worst Wimbledon defeat in 10 years before battling from two sets down to beat French 29th seed Julien Benneteau.

Federer clinched an eighth career fightback from two sets in arrears to win 4-6, 6-7 (3/7), 6-2, 7-6 (8/6), 6-1 and will face unseeded Belgian Xavier Malisse for a place in the quarter-finals.

The Swiss star, who won the last of his record 16 Grand Slam titles at the 2010 Australian Open, was staring at his earliest defeat at the All England Club since a shock first round exit to Mario Ancic in 2002.

But after being two points away from joining Rafael Nadal on the Wimbledon scrapheap in the 12th game of the fourth set, Federer raced through the decider as Benneteau wilted and twice needed treatment by the trainer.

"It was a tight match and maybe I had a bit of luck on my side," said Federer, who had also come back from two sets to love down to beat Juan Martin del Potro at the French Open quarter-finals this year.

"It was tough and brutal. I fought until the end to stay alive."

Defending champion Djokovic avoided another Czech Republic Centre Court ambush with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 win over veteran Radek Stepanek.

Djokovic, like Federer, playing under the roof on the same court where Rafael Nadal had been stunned by world 100 Czech Lukas Rosol on Thursday, overcame dropping his first set of the tournament to see off 33-year-old Stepanek.

The Serb goes on to play compatriot Victor Troicki, who put out Argentine 15th seed Juan Monaco 7-5, 7-5, 6-3, for a place in the quarter-finals.

"I had break points in the first set but he came up with the big serves. It was a tough match, but I played really well in the second, third and fourth sets," said Djokovic.

French 18th seed Richard Gasquet, a semi-finalist in 2007, beat 12th seed Nicolas Almagro 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 to claim a first win over the Spaniard in four meetings.

He will tackle German 31st seed Florian Mayer who edged Polish qualifier Jerzy Janowicz 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Xavier Malisse of Belgium, who reached the last four in 2002, defeated Spanish 17th seed Fernando Verdasco 1-6, 7-6 (7/5), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to set up a date with Federer.

Denis Istomin became the first Uzbek to make the last 16 when he defeated Alejandro Falla of Colombia 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7/5).

He will face Russian 26th seed Mikhail Youzhny who saw off Serb eighth seed Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Women's top seed Sharapova cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Taiwain's Hsieh Su-Wei as the world number one set up a Wimbledon rematch with Sabine Lisicki.

Sharapova breezed past world number 63 Hsieh despite some serious issues with her serve in the windy conditions on Court One.

The French Open champion's reward for a typically gritty display is a last 16 meeting with German 15th seed Lisicki in a repeat of last year's Wimbledon semi-final clash which the Russian won in straight sets.

"Playing Lisicki will be a tough one. She obviously did really well here last year. She's a good grass-court player and I look forward to it," said the Russian.

Former world number one Kim Clijsters, a semi-finalist in 2003 and 2006 and playing her last Wimbledon before retirement, reached the last 16 when Russian Vera Zvonareva quit with breathing problems.

Twelfth seed Zvonareva, the 2010 runner-up to Serena Williams, was trailing 6-3, 4-3 at the time.

Clijsters goes on to face German eighth seed Angelique Kerber who reached the last 16 for the first time with a 6-2, 6-3 win over American 28th seed Christina McHale.

Polish third seed Agnieszka Radwanska, a quarter-finalist in 2008 amd 2009, crushed Britain's Heather Watson 6-0, 6-2.

Radswanska next faces Italian qualifier Camila Giorgi who defied her lowly 145 world ranking to shock 20th seed Nadia Petrova 6-3, 7-6 (8/6).

Chinese 30th seed Peng Shuai made the fourth round for the second successive year with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus and will face Russia's Maria Kirilenko

The?Shenzhou?9?parachuted to a landing on the grasslands of the country's sprawling Inner Mongolia region at about 10 a.m. (0200 GMT). China declared the first manned mission to the Tiangong 1 module ? the space program's longest and most challenging yet ? a major stride ahead for the country's ambitious space program.

About an hour later, mission commander and veteran astronaut Jing Haipeng, 45, emerged from the capsule, followed by crew mates Liu Wang, 43, and 33-year-old Liu Yang, China's first female astronaut.

The three, all experienced air force pilots, were lifted on to folding chairs and appeared in good health. They smiled, waved, chatted and saluted as state television ran live footage from the landing site.

"Tiangong 1, our home in space, was comfortable and pleasant. We're very proud of our nation," Liu Yang told national broadcaster CCTV.

Space program commander, Gen. Chang Wanchuan, declared the astronauts in good health and declared the mission "completely successful."

He was followed by Premier Wen Jiabao, who said the mission marked "absolutely important progress" for the space program.

The mission had included both remote control and piloted dockings with the module and extensive medical monitoring of the astronauts as part of preparations for manning a permanent space station.

China's next goals include another manned mission to the module originally scheduled for later this year but which may be delayed depending on an evaluation of the?Shenzhou?9?mission and the condition of the Tiangong 1. China has been extremely cautious and methodical in its manned missions, with more than three years passing since the previous one, and all four have been relatively problem-free.

Chen Shanguang, director for the Chinese Astronaut Research and Training Center, told a news conference that preparations and selection of astronauts were already under way for the?Shenzhou?10 mission.

Tiangong 1 is due to be retired in a few years and replaced with a permanent space station around 2020 that will weigh about 60 tons, slightly smaller than NASA's Skylab of the 1970s and about one-sixth the size of the 16-nation International Space Station that China was barred from participating in, largely on objections from the United States. Possible future missions could include sending a rover to the moon, possibly followed by a manned lunar mission. Launched June 16 from the Jiuquan center on the edge of the Gobi desert in northern China,?Shenzhou?9?is the latest success for China's manned space program that launched its first astronaut, Yang Liwei, into space in 2003, making China just the third nation after Russia and the U.S. to achieve that feat. China would also be the third country after the United States and Russia to send independently maintained space stations into orbit.

Earlier in the week, a spokeswoman said China spent 20 billion yuan ($3.1 billion) on its space program between 1992 and 2005 ? a rare admission for a program with close links to the secretive military. By the time the next?Shenzhou?mission is completed, Beijing will have spent an additional 19 billion yuan ($3 billion), the spokeswoman said.

Wang Zhaoyao, director of China's manned space program office, said the program mirrors the rising global status of China.

"For any country, for any people, a space program is indispensable," Wang said.

Analysis: Europe steps forward; but will populace follow?

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Markets applauded Europe's steps to move toward a closer union - but it's not clear European voters are going to play along.

That worries investors, particularly when Europe appears more deeply divided than at any time since the common currency was introduced in 1999.

Europe's decision to bend its aid rules to help Italy and Spain and move toward creating a common bank supervisor pushed it a step closer to a tighter union.

Yet even if European leaders can put aside past differences and start building a United States of Europe, voters may resist what they see as a loss of sovereignty. That may rebound on markets if a lot of effort goes wasted.

"A lot of people in Europe don't want to be part of one country," said Simon Pryke, chief investment officer at Newton Investment Management in London, which oversees about $80 billion in assets. "There's a disconnect between politicians and the electorate. They are pulling in opposite directions."

Sweeping spending cuts and tax increases to reduce large budget deficits have provoked a backlash from Europeans across the 17-country currency union, particularly in countries with high jobless rates and low or negative growth.

Sizable minorities in recent French and Greek elections plumped for far-right or far-left parties rather than mainstream ones committed to European integration.

Germany, meanwhile, has opposed easing austerity measures and pushed back against calls for creating a common bond market.

"Nein! No! Non!" shouted a recent headline in a German newspaper urging leaders to resist efforts to make Germany underwrite other euro zone countries' debts.

Gregory Whiteley, who helps manage $35 billion at DoubleLine Capital in Los Angeles, said Friday's deal to let rescue funds be injected directly into banks rather than lent to already indebted governments was a significant step, particularly since it marked a softening of Germany's previous opposition.

But he said setting up a euro zone bank regulator to oversee such aid, something leaders said they would consider doing by the end of the year, could still prove a hard sell.

"We are still a long way from solving this because the resistance of voters on both sides - in Germany, to making concessions and in Southern Europe to facing up to the severity of the problem - is a big obstacle to getting a long-term, workable solution," he said.

Indeed, Der Spiegel characterized Friday's agreement as a defeat for Germany, which it said "caved in to demands for less stringent bail-outs and direct aid to banks."

As BNY Mellon strategist Simon Derrick put it: "It's clear the agreement was forced out of Germany under extreme duress. As a result, Germany looks politically isolated and, presumably, extremely annoyed. That would seem a dangerous combination."

This is partly why Whiteley says he doubts the rally in risky assets will persist. He warned against betting against a future rally in the dollar and safe-haven U.S. Treasuries.

Mohamed El-Erian, CEO at Pimco, which runs the world's largest bond, echoed those sentiments in an interview with CNBC-TV.

"Our assessment is this is not yet the breakthrough. More is yet required," he said. "Therefore, there's the risk that once again this rally may run out of steam."

POLITICAL DISPERSION

The strains in public opinion and political consensus in Europe is not uncommon at a time when people are worried about their economic futures, said Peter Atwater, president of Financial Insyghts, an investment advisory based in Mendenhall, Pennsylvania.

It can be seen across the Atlantic as well. Atwater points to falling consumer confidence, intractable political gridlock and the rise of protest movements such as the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street, all of which can complicate policymaking.

"I am bothered by the level of market confidence many investors have in European policymakers," he said. "There's a greater sense that because the consequences (of failure) are so dire, they must act. At the same time, you have mounting political dispersion, so the ability of governments to act decisively, rapidly and cohesively deteriorates."

Berkeley economics professor Barry Eichengreen said such political fragmentation is always a risk when economic conditions worsen. But he noted that Greece and France still managed to form mainstream governments after recent elections.

"There has been some movement toward the extremist parties on the left and right, but it could be worse," he said.

Even so, uncertainty about how the European debt crisis will end has kept investors wary of over-exposure to the euro or other euro zone assets, something Newton's Pryke said will likely persist for some time.

"There will be great buying opportunities in European equities sometime in the future," he said. "But not now."

(AP) ? Before the sun climbed above the hills around this central Mexican town, Saul Garcia and his family awoke to the sound of bullets piercing the front gate. A masked motorcyclist had opened fire on their brick home, leaving behind a poster signed by the La Familia drug cartel, warning the mayoral candidate to withdraw from the race or the gang would kill him, his wife and three children.

Garcia, a candidate for the local Social Democratic Party, didn't pull out. A state police officer now follows Garcia 24 hours a day while he courts voters on the steep and narrow streets of Emiliano Zapata, a suburb of Cuernavaca in the state of Morelos.

As Mexicans head to the ballot box Sunday, drug cartels are registering their votes with scare tactics and cold, hard cash to make sure whoever is elected doesn't interfere with their lucrative operations. The focus is usually on local politics, where officials and their police departments can cause problems, or smooth the way, for gangs moving drugs or shaking down businesses. It's also easier to influence a local race than an extensive, well-financed national election in the glare of media coverage.

Drug cartels aren't political, they're practical. Officials from all three major parties have been accused of drug gang ties, or have come under attack. Gangs support candidates they can buy off or a scare off ? and government officials say they're fighting back.

"We've said for several months that we have to recognize the presence and action of criminal groups around the election, particularly in the local sphere, " Mexico's federal interior secretary, Alejandro Poire, said Thursday. "We are acting to contain it, to prevent it and to bring those responsible to justice."

Garcia says he doesn't know why he was targeted.

"I don't have enemies," said Garcia, whose home was attacked April 30. "When I realized they were threatening me and saying I had to quit I thought, 'But wait, we are free to vote and to be elected.'"

Election violence this season has flared in Morelos and in other states where voters will choose six governors and hundreds of mayors and councilmembers.

While the federal government does not track the number of candidates threatened, there have been scattered reports of attacks or threats against politicians and campaign workers in several states, including a gubernatorial candidate in Morelos.

A Morelos state official who was not authorized to talk to reporters said La Familia is seeking to control small towns like Emiliano Zapata since taking a beating in its home state, neighboring Michoacan. There, the cartel has been wounded by government attacks and an internal split.

In Michoacan state elections last fall, an anonymous newspaper ad threatened members of the governing National Action Party to stay home on election day in a town whose mayor already had been killed. Shadowy groups intimidated candidates into dropping out and used roadblocks and phone threats try to control the vote. Pollsters were kidnapped and released unharmed only weeks before elections.

There have also been attacks against candidates in the drug-plagued state of Guerrero, though it is not clear who was responsible.

Poire, the interior secretary, met with Morelos Gov. Marco Adame on Wednesday to coordinate security efforts for elections day and promised an immediate response to any emergencies that threaten the voting process.

Drug cartels have bribed officials for decades, paying off governors, mayors and other public officials as part of the cost of doing business. The Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, ruled Mexico for 71 years, and in those days, cartels didn't need to pay attention to the electoral season.

But the party's ouster in 2000 created a power vacuum and left territory and elective offices up for grabs. Since then, candidates of all stripes have been accused of being bought by cartels.

"This new phenomenon systematically pulls mafias into politics," said Eduardo Guerrero, a security analyst. "They didn't used to get involved in this whole task of financing campaigns or nominating their members for elected seats. When there was a winner, you negotiated and if he didn't want to, you killed him and that was the end of it."

A small state of 1.7 million people, Morelos' large swaths of mountain lands are ideal for transporting cocaine and heroin on state highways from southern ports to Mexico City and northward. The territory was once controlled by the powerful Sinaloa Cartel through its former allies, the Beltran Leyva gang.

The state's capital of Cuernavaca, a favorite retreat for U.S. retirees and wealthy Mexico City residents, was also a sanctuary for drug capos until President Felipe Calderon's crackdown on organized crime. Marines in 2009 raided a luxurious apartment complex and killed drug kingpin Arturo Beltran Leyva.

Since then, the city has seen a surge in drug violence as factions of the Beltran Leyva, La Familia and other smaller gangs fight for turf. All the cartels rely on local politicians, especially mayors, who control the police forces. A mayor in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz was kidnapped days ago. Her body was found Thursday on a nearby highway outside state limits, a news statement said.

Morelos state officials say kidnappings have increased in the past couple of months and the words FM, initials for the pseudo-religious La Familia Michoacana in Spanish, are often found at murder scenes.

Local politicians from National Action, which has governed Morelos since 2000, have been accused of having links to the Beltran Leyva cartel. The former state police chief appointed by the governor has been jailed on suspicion of ties to the gang, though he has not been convicted of any crime.

National Action is poised to lose the governorship on Sunday, so locals say the drug gangs are lining up behind candidates from the other two major parties.

Democratic Revolution's gubernatorial candidate, Graco Ramirez, says people in remote areas are telling him that gangs have threatened them to stay home on election day. He complains that gunmen approach his campaign staffers while they are out distributing flyers.

"Drug gangs don't want me to become governor," he said, though he would not name which ones. "We would stop turning a blind eye to their activities."

Garcia, the mayoral candidate whose family was threatened, is running against Ramirez's party, however.

Another mayoral candidate for the Green Party in Morelos also has reported death threats and even a failed kidnapping attempt by a drug gang, though he did not say which one.

The president of Morelos' state election institute, Oscar Granat Herrera, said that drug cartels will not try to sway the vote. He said the cases of violence are rarely as clear as the shooting attack on Garcia's home in Emiliano Zapata. Even in that investigation, authorities have no suspects so far.

Nevertheless, Granat said, "We will heavily guard this election," so people will feel safe.

In Temixco, a rough suburb of Cuernavaca, teenage boys climbed to rooftops and leaned against light poles near a soccer field to watch gubernatorial candidate Ramirez speak on a recent afternoon.

Ramirez told hundreds of his supporters gathered that he is tired of having corrupt officers on the drug gangs' payroll.

"They come here and they kill and threaten those who file reports," he shouted before the crowd.

Several armored SUVs waited for the candidate outside. Security guards blocked Ramirez's followers trying to get a word or snap a picture with the candidate as he left. Reporters had to fight to stay close enough to toss questions.

"I want you to understand how critical the moment is," one guard said. "He could be killed here for God's sake."

Caffeine boosts power for elderly muscles

ScienceDaily (June 29, 2012) ? A new study to be presented at the Society for Experimental Biology meeting on 30th June has shown that caffeine boosts power in older muscles, suggesting the stimulant could aid elderly people to maintain their strength, reducing the incidence of falls and injuries.

For adults in their prime, caffeine helps muscles to produce more force. But as we age, our muscles naturally change and become weaker.

Sports scientists at Coventry University looked for the first time at whether these age-related changes in muscle would alter the effect of caffeine. They found that caffeine continued to enhance muscle performance in two different muscles from mice, although it was less effective in older muscles.

Jason Tallis, the study's primary author, said: "Despite a reduced effect in the elderly, caffeine may still provide performance-enhancing benefits."

For adults in their prime, caffeine helps muscles to produce more force. But as we age, our muscles naturally change and become weaker. So, sports scientists at Coventry University looked for the first time at whether these age-related changes in muscle would alter the effect of caffeine.

Caffeine's effect was smallest for juvenile muscles, suggesting caffeine may not have an enhancing effect in developing muscles.

The decline in muscle strength that occurs as we age contributes to injuries and reduces quality of life. The process is not well understood, but it is clear that preserving muscle tone is key.

Tallis said: "With the importance of maintaining a physically active lifestyle to preserve health and functional capacity, the performance-enhancing benefit of caffeine could prove beneficial in the aging population."

The researchers isolated muscles from mice ranging in age from juvenile to elderly, then tested their performance before and after caffeine treatment. They looked at two different skeletal muscles, which are the muscles we can control voluntarily. The first was the diaphragm, a core muscle used for respiration; the second was a leg muscle called the extensor digitorum longus (EDL), used for locomotion.

Myanmar tells Suu Kyi not to call country 'Burma'

YANGON, Myanmar (AP) ? Myanmar has changed dramatically over the last year, but one thing won't change anytime soon: the country's name.

Authorities in the Southeast Asian nation sternly warned opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Friday to stop calling the country "Burma." They said she should use the constitutionally decreed title, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Its then-military rulers changed the English name from Burma to Myanmar in 1989, ostensibly to better reflect the country's ethnic diversity. The term Burma connotes Burman, the dominant ethnic group in the country, to the exclusion of ethnic minorities. But regime opponents and exile groups from a range of ethnicities ? as well as foreign governments including the United States ? have persisted in calling the country Burma in protest and defiance against an undemocratic regime they long saw as illegitimate.

Myanmar's election commission, which supervises laws dealing with political parties, issued the complaint in the state-run New Light of Myanmar newspaper. The statement cited Suu Kyi's repeated references to the country as Burma during her landmark trips in recent weeks to Thailand and Europe, and it said she and her National League for Democracy Party must "respect the constitution" and use the proper name.

It's not clear whether there are any legal consequences for not doing so.

A former political prisoner, Suu Kyi became a lawmaker after her party won dozens of parliament seats in April by-elections, a vote that was symbolic of the post-junta changes that have swept the country under the leadership of President Thein Sein. Weeks later, she and her opposition colleagues took the oath of office, which includes an official vow to uphold the constitution.

Suu Kyi's party spokesman Nyan Win said the election commission's complaint was a non-issue. "Referring to the country as Burma does not amount to disrespecting the constitution," he said.

In the official state language, the country and its people are both pronounced Myanmar.

Club and Hotel Controllers Conference

Upcoming Events ? By Editor on June 28, 2012 8:01 am

Time: 27-29 June 2012

Venue: Baltimore Convention Centre, Baltimore, USA

Focusing on finding balance with multiple job responsibilities, Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals? (HFTP?) Club and Hotel Controllers Conference offers a wide spectrum of education that gives attendees the opportunity to catch up on the latest developments related to financial professionals.

The conference, co-located with the 2012 Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC?), is June 25-27 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Md.

?Today the role of the hospitality financial professional has evolved into more than just dealing with accounting issues. With the increased accessibility of technology and portability of data and new opportunities to manage the business in unconventional ways; financial managers find themselves managing business partners more than staff.

Expectations are higher and the knowledge base of the professional needs to expand to handle these effectively,? said Arlene Ramirez, MBA, CHE, CHAE, principal at ADR Hospitality Consulting and chair of the HFTP Education Advisory Council.

?This year the Education Advisory Council has done a great job of looking at the current situation and anticipating the future and has provided a strong educational program with a variety of topics that provide more tools for any hospitality professional to be prepared for the challenges ahead.?

The conference?s two full days of education includes two industry-specific concurrent tracks ? one for hotels and the other for clubs ? and a keynote session from Andy Core, president of Core Wellness.

His session ?Life Balance ? Redefining Humanly Possible? discusses how to improve your work-life balance, productivity, health and ability to stay motivated in turbulent times.

With up to 15 continuing education credits available, the Club and Hotel Controllers Conference will cover hot financial issues like tax issues, benchmarking tools, cloud computing, outsourcing, PCI compliance and more.

New this year, the conference includes easy access to club and hotel vendors specific to finance who will be on hand to discuss the latest solutions for your property.

Because the conference is co-located with HITEC 2012, it offers additional benefits like a co-located Welcome Reception at Power Plant Live!; specific time set aside for the HITEC exhibit hall featuring hospitality technology vendors and the newest version of GUESTROOM 20X; and access to additional education, including HITEC?s Opening Session with Caesars Entertainment?s Gary Loveman.

D-Link Amplifi HD Media Router 3000 (DIR-857)

D-Link's Amplifi HD Media Router 3000 (DIR-857) is the company's highest-end consumer router, with theoretical throughput speeds up to 450 Mbps on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. What may have been excellent throughput two or three years ago is below average when compared with that offered by competing dual-bands, such as those from Netgear, Linksys, Buffalo and now Western Digital. Although the DIR-857 is a bit cheaper than the average competing dual-band router?$170.00 versus the average price of about $200, the router needs an interface refresh, dropped its WAN connection coming back from reboot several times, and gets fairly hot after only a few hours of uptime.

Specs and Design
?D-Link's latest Amplifi series routers all look so much alike, when I get a new one I think, "Didn't I review this already?" It's got the black, attractive housing of its other Amplifi Media routers, with a high gl0ss casing (the only smudge-resistant high-gloss casing on a device I've tested) and a herringbone-like decorative overlay on the top of the case.

This dual-band 802.11n router features D-Link's HD Fuel QoS technology, as well as its SharePoint Cloud capability for remotely accessing content from an attached USB drive or from an SD card. Yes, D-Link retains its unique feature of offering an SD card slot. There are also four Gigabit Ethernet ports and a USB 3.0 port.

Setup
The device ships with a CD marked "Start Here." Start the CD, and a wizard opens up. The wizard checks the state of the network adapter on the device you are using to configure the router and for Internet connectivity. Setup walks you through connecting the router.?

You can enable CAPTCHA to secure access to the router's management interface and Advanced Domain Name services purported to enhance your Internet experience.? The setup connection instructions get a bit weird as they have users connect the LAN ports to the setup computer and then to the WAN. I recommend always establishing the connection from a DSL or cable modem first to the WAN port and then connect the LAN.

The setup instructions do work, however, in getting the router up and running.? Annoyingly, when you are in the final stages of setup, you are asked to install the Google Toolbar (although it's optional). After setup, the browser opens to D-link's product registration page and you are done. As an alternative to setting up the device with a computer, you can use D-Link's QRS Mobile device to set up from an iPad or iPhone.

Managing the DIR-857
D-Link's management UI has not changed much in several years, but there are added features with the Amplifi line, such as support for IPV6 and options such as guest network, access control, and content filtering.? Parental controls are offered through a choice of three services: Advanced DNS, (which is more for protection against security threats such as phishing), and OpenDNS' Family Shield and Parental Controls services.

More advanced capabilities include: QoS, virtual servers and DDNS and application rules.
You can use a ?Web browser to remotely access files on an SD card or on USB storage by enabling Web file access.? By default, access is provided through port 8181.? Shareport Web Access lets you upload and access multimedia files and documents.

Making any significant change in the router interface requires a 60 second full reboot. As if that wasn't irritating enough, I also noticed a few times after coming back from reboot that the WAN connection was not enabled. I could not get Internet access during these times without an additional hard reboot of the router?making the reboot time feel extra-long.

Assumption of the Risk - Alligators on Golf Courses...

There's a great hypo in here:? The Georgia Supreme Court recently ruled that a golf club and homeowners' association was not liable for the wrongful death of an elderly woman killed by an alligator in 2007.? Although the Court of Appeals had allowed the suit, the Georgia Supreme Court reversed.

The Supreme Court's majority decision, written by Justice Harold D. Melton, stated that even though no warning signs were posted at the lagoons, the homeowners association had warned residents in its publications and on its website that alligators were present and could be dangerous. Thus, Williams assumed the risk when she went out for an evening walk near the lagoons.

Ex-lawmaker to chair Israel WWII survivors' group

JERUSALEM (AP) ? A prominent ex-lawmaker and Holocaust survivor has been appointed to lead Israel's umbrella organization of Holocaust survivors.

Colette Avital, originally from Romania, was a longtime Israeli diplomat, serving as consul general in New York City.

As a member of parliament, she headed an inquiry identifying properties in Israel owned by European Jews who were killed in the Holocaust.

The Center of Organizations of Holocaust Survivors in Israel represents 50 organizations that assist Holocaust survivors. The organization's previous head, the late Noah Flug, fought governments to compensate survivors.

Six million Jews were killed by Nazis in World War II. Fewer than 200,000 Holocaust survivors remain in Israel. Some live in poverty.

Avital told The Associated Press on Thursday she fears governmental budget cuts could reduce assistance for needy survivors.

Every Day Is A Healthy Day With These Wonderful Weight Loss Tips ...

by author on June 27, 2012 in lose belly fat

Try to find a low-calorie substitute of the foods you like the best. It?s not uncommon for someone to give their diet up because they are dealing with hunger pains, or because they?re unable to stay away from their favorite types of food. You can enjoy your favorite foods in lower-caloric versions and lose weight at the same time.

Eating while distracted is the key to weight gain. If you don?t pay attention to your diet, you will probably eat more than you intend. Therefore, you should keep track of the amount of food you are eating during every meal. This will help you ensure you don?t overeat.

Green vegetables are an integral component to add to your diet regimen. Green vegetables are filled with fibers, vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Some great greens include spinach, broccoli, green beans, asparagus, and kale. When you add these to your meal plans, you will see results.

Always have healthy snacks on hand. This can include nuts, cheese and veggies. These healthy choices are great for times when you are hungry for a snack and want to avoid junk food. It makes a quick and easy snack you can grab when you are on the go.

Reduce your alcohol intake as much as possible when trying to lose weight. It can be harder to lose weight if you drink a good bit of alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are usually loaded with empty calories. If you?re going to drink, try a low calorie version of the original.

To stick with losing weight more easily, you should figure out which types of physical activity makes you happy. This can help you burn the calories quicker, so you can eat more. If you can enjoy the activity, you won?t feel bad about it and consider it work; in turn, you will feel more motivated to keep going.

It is not hard to lose the weight. The first thing to do is cut certain foods from your diet. Replacing sugary sodas and juices with water or low calorie beverages is an essential step in controlling your weight. Sometimes, juices low in sugar are alright to consume, but sodas and soft drinks should not be consumed at all.

If you consistently find yourself at a loss, consider hiring a consultant or other nutritional or fitness professional to help you. Professionals can help people prepare their grocery lists, recipes, and more. This helps to reduce the extra effort involved in planning for a diet regimen.

While you are in weight loss mode, it is wise to purchase clothing at discount stores and thrift stores. This is because you want to avoid spending lots of money on clothing during your weight loss regimen that will soon be too big for you.

Taking pictures of yourself both before weight loss and during can help your progress. This can give you a glimpse into your progress or lack thereof during your regimen. Of course, this also makes it easier for you to share your progress with others.

An easy way to help lose weight is to reduce the size of the plate you use. Large plates can cause people to fill the plate to capacity and eat more than is necessary. Use a 9? plate for your dinnertime meal. Larger plates are simply too large for successful weight loss.

Be realistic when you?re setting a goal for losing weight. It is unrealistic to think that you would lose 50 pounds, for example, in less than six months. By creating realistic smaller goals, you will stay motivated as you meet each goal. You will not fail if you do not set yourself up to do so. Give yourself a weekly weight loss goal of around two pounds.

Investigate foods that are high in monounsaturated fatty acids, which have been shown to increase the success rate of healthy weight loss. MUFA means monosaturated fatty acids and this can be oils, butters and nuts because they?re counted in that group. In studies, MUFA foods increase the amount of weight you lose, and also increase your overall health as well. Use MUFA foods appropriately in your diet.

Instead of consuming large evening meals, try eating the large meals midday. If you normally eat a sandwich for lunch, change it up and eat it for supper, instead. Eating your largest meal for lunch will give you more calories when you need them. Calories consumed in the evening are less likely to be burned off.

One great exercise that promotes weight loss is climbing the stairs. As simple as it may seem, you are still burning calories that you would not have had you taken the elevator.

When you begin your diet, establish realistic goals. If your goal is not realistic, it won?t be met. You won?t succeed if you determine that you need to lose 20 pounds in a month?s time. Rather than setting unrealistic goals, set smaller attainable goals each week. Stop focusing on the big picture. Instead, you should be concerned with how much you lose every week.

Simple behaviors are easier to sustain to successful conclusions. Keep what you have learned here in mind, and practice these new skills. You will see this becoming effective in making you thinner pretty quickly. In a matter of weeks, you will have developed the healthy habits that are going to bring your to your ideal weight.

HBT: D-backs suspend broadcaster for wanting to wear suit?

Nick Piecoro has an update to the suspension of Diamondbacks announcer Daron Sutton. We heard yesterday from Jerry Crasnick of ESPN that the dispute was possibly about the dress code, and that Sutton was suspended due to ?insubordination,? though it wasn?t very specific. Now Nick has this:

A source confirmed that dispute to?The Republic, saying that while the club prefers its broadcast team to wear?polo?shirts?adorned with the Diamondbacks logo, Sutton has lobbied to wear suits.

That?s backwards from what a lot of people assumed when this was reported yesterday. ?And no, I have no idea when the pic attached to this post was taken. I assume it was on the same day this was created.

In other news, what would you do to a co-worker who totally tried to kill casual days? Man, buzzkill, Daron. Buzzkill.

Ann Curry confirms: I'm leaving 'Today'

Ann Curry, in an interview on Wednesday with USA Today, confirmed the news everyone said was imminent: She's leaving the "Today" show.

In a 40-minute phone interview with a reporter from the newspaper, Curry said she expected Thursday to "be a bit of a tough day ... I'm going to have to tell our viewers. That's what makes me more emotional than anything. I don't want to leave them. I love them. And I will really miss them."

Also read: Ann Curry Shivved in NYT by Anonymous NBC Exec: 'Her Empathy Is Overwhelming'

The move comes after days of non-stop speculation -- and acute embarrassment to NBC? -- about Curry's future on the morning show, which has slipped in the ratings since she replaced Meredith Vieira a year ago.

In the interview, Curry rejected the notion that she was responsible for the ratings decline.

"I know I am not to blame for the ratings worries," she said. "And my bosses have said to me there are many factors involved. There is no doubt that the rating wars have become meaner and less focused on our responsibilities as journalists," though she says some at "Today" do "brilliant work."

It was the first time Curry has spoken publicly about her expected departure since news first leaked that NBC was removing her from the show. There has been a public outpouring of sympathy for the morning host, and even an online petition by her fans seeking to save her job.

Also read: Ann Curry Fans Rally to Save Her 'Today' Job With Online Petition

Insiders told TheWrap that Curry has been negotiating her exit for the last several days.

In her new position at NBC, she will lead a seven-person unit with a mandate to cover major news stories, such as the uprising in Syria and "the plight of the poor in America," Curry told USA Today. As anchor-at-large and NBC News national/international correspondent, Curry will produce network specials and pieces for NBC News and fill in as anchor on the Nightly News and elsewhere.

Many media observers have said that Curry was ill-suited to the host position on "Today" and would be better out in the field as a reporter.?

But Curry clearly was hoping to stay. "I have called the co-host job at the 'Today' show my dream job, and I would be lying if I said it was easy to leave that job," she said in the interview.

Curry took over Vieira's co-host position a year ago. Recently the "Today" show has seen its ABC competitor "Good Morning America" drawing a higher total viewership for a full week, the first time that has occurred in 16 years.

Savannah Guthrie, who co-hosts the third hour of "Today," is said to be the front-runner as Curry's replacement.

Acer launches 11.6-inch Sandy Bridge TravelMate B113

Acer launches 116inch Sandy Bridge TravelMate B113

4GB of RAM, half a TB of storage, Sandy Bridge and an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 panel starting at €450 (about $563), sounds like a pretty sweet deal on a last-gen ultrabook right? Well, Acer's TravelMate B1113 is actually brand new and, as you dig a little deeper into the specs, this one sounds more like a rather hefty netbook. And we do mean hefty -- this laptop apparently tips the scales at 1.88 Kg, which puts it a touch over the four pound mark. 4.1 pounds certainly isn't shoulder busting, but it's a solid half a pound more than you'd expect from a machine of this size. Then there's the fact that the base model ships with a 1.4Ghz Celeron, and the top shelf €560 version (roughly $700) only sports a 1.5GHz Core i3. We haven't been able to dig up the dimensions on this sucker, but the press pics don't make it look particularly bulky. We can only assume, given its considerable weight and diminutive size, that the chassis is made of cast iron. On the plus side, it does have a matte screen... that's gotta count for something, right?

Vizio's Google TV box emerges as the Co-Star Stream Player, goes up for pre-order in July with OnLive gaming

Vizio Co-Star hands-on

Remember the Vizio VAP430 Stream Player that we tried during CES? Half a year later, the Google TV hub is getting full launch details, just in time for Google I/O. Along with receiving the much more elegant title of Co-Star Stream Player, the set-top box now bakes in OnLive streaming game support -- the Co-Star could, in theory, replace a game console for any American with a good broadband connection. Whether or not playing Just Cause 2 on a TV is in the cards, the hub ticks all the 2012 Google TV checkboxes, including a hybrid keyboard and remote, 3D-capable 1080p video and DLNA media sharing. Before you rush to the local big-box store to pick one up, be warned that pre-orders don't start until July, and then only on Vizio's website. The $100 price, however, will make it considerably easier to wait.

Study suggests touch therapy helps reduce pain, nausea in cancer patients

Study suggests touch therapy helps reduce pain, nausea in cancer patients [ Back to EurekAlert! ] Public release date: 26-Jun-2012

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 26, 2012) A new study by the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center shows that patients reported significant improvement in side effects of cancer treatment following just one Jin Shin Jyutsu session. Jin Shin Jyutsu is an ancient form of touch therapy similar to acupuncture in philosophy.

Presented at the 2012 Markey Cancer Center Research Day by Jennifer Bradley who is the Jin Shin Jyutsu integrative practitioner at Markey, the study included 159 current cancer patients. Before and after each Jin Shin Jyutsu session, Bradley asked patients to assess their symptoms of pain, stress and nausea on a scale of 0-10, with 0 representing no symptoms.

The study found that in each session patients experienced significant improvement in the areas of pain, stress, and nausea with the first visit and in subsequent visits as well. The mean decreases experienced were three points for stress and two points for both pain and nausea.

"I was pleased to see quantitatively the improvements that patients noted in these primary areas of discomfort," said Bradley. "It was interesting to note that regardless of age, sex or diagnosis, cancer patients received a statistically significant improvement in the side effects from treatment. It is encouraging to note that Jin Shin Jyutsu made improvements in these areas without adding additional unwanted effects that so often occur with medication interventions."

Funded by a grant from the Lexington Cancer Foundation, Jin Shin Jyutsu is considered part of an integrative treatment plan available at the UK Markey Cancer Center. Bradley offers Jin Shin Jyutsu to all cancer patients at no charge. Patients may self-refer, though half are referred by their physician or Markey staff.

During a Jin Shin Jyutsu session, patients receive light touches on 52 specific energetic points called Safety Energy Locks as well as fingers, toes, and midpoints on the upper arm, upper calf and lower leg in predetermined orders known as "flows." Patients remained clothed except for shoes and all hand placements are done over clothing.

Sessions were performed in the Jin Shin Jyutsu Treatment Room, Chemotherapy Outpatient Clinic, or in the patient's hospital room. The study also noted that the greatest overall improvement came from sessions held in the Jin Shin Jyutsu Treatment Room, where sessions are generally of a longer duration.

The study did not include controls for several parameters including the time between sessions or location and duration of service. Bradley's next study will control more of these variables, and her team will access patients' medical records over the time period of their participation to evaluate changes in patients' medication usage for cancer and symptom management of pain, stress and nausea.

"The American Cancer Society has noted that quality of life is an issue for all cancer patients; those undergoing treatment, late stage patients, and cancer survivors," Bradley said. "There is a need for additional research to develop evidence-based interventions that have a positive impact on the quality of life for all of these individuals without adding to their burden. From what I have seen in my office and the results shown in the study, I believe that Jin Shin Jyutsu has great promise in this area."
